Maggot infestation is an emergency !
Maggots will start with dead tissue but they don’t stop and will eat cat or dog. Maggots also release toxins. Below guide is just so you can get the situation under control until you can get first available vet appointment and sooner the better ! Shave the infected area and wash it with a disinfectant scrub like Betadine & Saline.
Irrigation with saline or water: Irrigation of the area can lift maggots off the surface of the wound if it is a shallow area and the maggots are of medium size, small maggots are more difficult to irrigate off as they tend to stick in the crevices’ of the wound tissue.
Irrigation with betadine: These antiseptics will kill maggots and will also assist in killing pathogens that may have been introduced by feral maggots.
1/4 cup warmed saline mixed with 3 or 4 drops of betadine
It shouldn’t be too dark, is should be light “tea” color
When cleaning wound remember… WHAT GOES IN MUST COME OUT !

GSE FOR CUTS / WOUNDS

After GSE you can do a warm saline flush.
MAKE SURE YOU TAKE THE PET TO VET FOR AN EXAMINATION TO DETERMINE IF AND WHAT FURTHER TREATMENT IN NECESSARY !
